Computer Aided Creativity Video
X-Ray View and Matrix 6 Features
Computer-aided modeling of jewelry typically falls into two categories: Making an existing design ready for CAM output, or creating a brand new design. Until now, these uses ran counter to each other. Often, designers want to create, explore, and refine designs; yet that often took more time and required a higher degree of skill to use. Creative modeling balanced with the need to make a precise model quickly couldn’t be found in the same software package...until now.

Introducing Matrix 6

Computer Aided Creativity
Over 2 years in the making, Matrix 6 represents Gemvision’s most extensive upgrade yet. Whether you are using CAD now or just thinking about getting started, Matrix 6 offers a new way of designing jewelry no other software even comes close to. Utilizing years of effort and input from the best CAD modelers in the industry as well as our own development team,Matrix provides users with the fastest way to replicate existing designs while allowing that process to take any creative path you would like.

Making the Details Just Right

It’s a big part of why Matrix out-performs anything else on the market. Creating a great design – not just a good one – is the result of an eye for design coupled with the ability to explore and refine your work. Every surface needs to be just right. If these details are not easily realized, the design is kept from reaching its full potential. Previously if it’s difficult or time-consuming to make the small changes necessary for truly great design, you are forced to either spend more time getting it “just right” or produce a design that’s not a true representation of your imagination. But Matrix 6 attains both goals – creativity and precision – by providing tools and modeling methods that jewelers, and only jewelers, need.

History Built Into the Model
History allows you to change, update and edit a model. This kind of editing method has been used in other CAD products primarily created for mechanical engineering as a “History Tree”. Matrix 6 has no such “Tree”. Designing jewelryInstead, our History is contained within the parts you build, and to access the History you just click on the part. This means that making changes to a model’s History is not only easier, it’s specially tailored to the design demands of jewelers making something beautiful - not engineers making tractor parts!

Style SheetsStyle Sheets
Many of the tools in Matrix feature our exclusive “Style Sheet” functionality. This means that items (heads, settings) you build on a regular basis can be instantly recalled and applied to a new piece. For example, if you create a “channel setting style” with a particular end shape and taper, you may want to apply that to another design in the future. The “Style Sheet” allows you to store the parameters used to build that particular channel and recall them any time. And History works hand in hand with Style Sheets. Therefore, the gems you are using for that channel setting actually “remember” how the channel was made. If you wish to edit those settings at a later date, simply recall the channel style from the gems’ “History” and edit it as needed.

Not only are Style Sheet settings able to be quickly recalled and edited with History, the whole process has been designed to work with your creativity. After quickly applying your custom channel style, you may wish to see if a few changes to the design may improve the look of the new model. This means you can complete the channel-setting task and explore a new look for the channel in the same design session.

Following Trends and Anticipating Them
Jewelry is fashion and fashion is always changing. Matrix 6 was developed looking at the latest trends and studying what has been, and what may be on the way.

Interface Design
To simplify and unite the overall appearance and usability of the program, we applied a tremendous amount of thought to the interface. We found that people use a variety of methods to work with software: some people like to type; others like to interact with the model directly onscreen; while still others look at the graphic interface (buttons and icons) as the preferred method of control. One thing is for sure: there is not a single best way! Therefore, most functions in Matrix offer all three ways from which the user can choose to control them, allowing users to decide which method is best.

Rendering and Shaded Working Modes
Surface design, technical inspection, checking tolerances, and design review using finished metal and gems, all require a different display mode. We offer new modes that make whatever you are doing easier to see, evaluate and present.

Powerful Gem Tools
Matrix 6 offers the largest array of tools for laying out and adjusting gems on the market. Control over scale, rotation, and movement are put into one easy set of tools. And the new Pave tool is very sophisticated allowing beautiful flowing patterns over the most demanding surfaces.

Library Items for Quick Builds
Creating your design from scratch insures you get exactly what you want. But often the base of the design is a standard part or profile. Matrix now offers flexible standard parts already in the program. And you can call up a part or piece that is very close to meeting your needs then quickly edit it to make it just right.

Pre-Sorted ToolsPre-Sorted Tools
While gathering input from existing users, we found they were asking for tools that were already part of the program. So why is it that even advanced users didn’t know where to find these tools? Simple: people become accustomed to using any software in a certain way, performing even new tasks using familiar methods, even if it takes them more time to do so! We have therefore provided the F6 key as a way to access all the tools that are relevant to the task you are performing onscreen. This translates to fast “look up” of the tools you use most often, as well as insight into tools that might save you time or offer further design options you were looking for.

Surface Control for All Users
Each surface you build needs to be perfect, it’s essential to great design. Making the perfect reflection for the most pleasing look requires a lot of control. This control used to come at a high cost: the amount time it would take building the model! And if you got it right the first time, it was great - but if not, it was back to step one. Matrix 6 changes all that. We now offer the most advanced level of surface modeling with tools even the beginner will find easy to use! And the best part is that, with History, you can now make changes to even complex surfaces on the fly - meaning your design ideas can be realized in just in seconds…not hours.

New V-Ray Render Engine Built In
From the quickest to the most spectacular photo quality render, Matrix 6 delivers. We wanted a render engine that allows people to make a great looking image in 30 seconds to make the sale as well as generate ultra realistic images at high resolutions for advertising and more. The answer is building an exclusive version of the powerful V-Ray rendering engine right into the software with our own interface and materials library tailored to making jewelry look great.
